Thai Massage

Picture
Thai massage is a sacred dance, a yoga for 2 people used to unblock energy stagnation. Traditionally practiced in Buddhist monasteries, Thai massage is regarded above all as a spiritual practice, a meditation in movement.

The masseur practices in a meditative state and develops his sensitivity and Heart qualities (Metta – Loving kindness and Karuna – Compassion) to tune in to the patient’s needs.  Learning how to give & to receive.. to touch..to breath.. to feel.  Aiming to help the receiver believe they can be healed.
Thai massage promotes general health and well-being. It has a double purpose. On the preventive side, it actives the free flow of energy and improves fluid circulation, digestion, breathing capacity, body posture, flexibility, as well as releasing nervous tension. On the therapeutic side, it can cure a large number of pathologies such as lower back pain, headaches, digestive problems, stress, insomnia, nervous imbalance, neck and shoulder muscular tightness…

Thai Massage Trainings

A traditional 10 day training has been split into two 5 day trainings, Level 1 & 2.

The first course is an introduction to the sacred dance of Thai Massage.  We introduce you to the world of touch, which is often misconceived, we open a dialogue between one another as an act of unconditional love, beyond preferences & judgements. Without touch the world would be only solitude & separation. With it we have an amazing tool to facilitate the process of healing.

The course will be based on understanding 1. Thai massage foundations (meditation in movement) & the principles of Touch: how to get softness & power in our hands, how to move in a fluid way on the floor using our whole body.  2. Working through the flow of a Thai Massage sequence.  The sequence is designed to treat the needs of Western patients through creating mobility & movement, restoring basic flexibility & balancing flow of energy.

Level 1

The aim of Level 1 is to give an understanding of the Principles of being, touching & working on the floor (using hands, feet, elbows, knees & using our body weight & stretching). You will be able to complete a sequence, giving a fully body massage, moving through a traditional sequence (supine, side, prone & sitting).  And you will learn about Energy lines specific to eastern philosophies & techniques.

This 5-day class is open to everyone (no prerequisites):
– from the complete beginner who has no hands-on experience and wishes simply to be able to give a good massage to family and friends,
– to the yoga teacher, health professional (physiotherapist, osteopath, nurse…) who wishes to expand his or her therapeutic techniques.

Level 2

The second course follows on from Thai 1 .  There will be a review of the principles & foundations seen in Thai Massage 1 , as well as advanced techniques & a few dynamic movements. Transitions will be one of our main focus points.  As there is time to practice between the first & second course, the massage gets more fluid & thus becomes a dance - the sacred dance.

We review all the foundations and principles seen in Thai Massage 1 and we add numerous advanced techniques as well as a few dynamic movements. Transitions will be one of our main points of focus. Our massage gets more fluid and slowly becomes a dance – the Sacred Dance.
Moreover this course gives you the possibility to learn new tools for your massage to be more efficient and to answer more precisely the needs (such as lower back problems) of your patients.
Many exercises will allow you to develop the sensitivity of your hands to “feel and be” rather than to do.

The aim of Thai 2 course is to learn advanced techniques, a new position (position 1 leg up), to focus on transitions in order to gain fluidty & grace. To acquire advanced techniques & sequences to become more efficient.  Secondly the aim of the course is to develop our hands sensitivity & intuition.  Also to cover some therapeutic aspects of Thai massage, such as headaches & lower back pain.
